To apply for family housing at Mitchel, prospective residents must complete an application and report through the Navy Housing Office. The necessary paperwork can be faxed to the Navy housing office at 516-486-5135.
The service member will need to provide Navy Housing with:
- DD Form 1746
- A copy of current orders
- A copy of Page 2 (listing all dependants that will be in the home)
- A copy of a recent LES
- A copy of your record of emergency data
- Military Identification
Once this process is completed, the Navy Housing Office will refer the prospective resident to Balfour Beatty Communities. Our office is located at 82B Mitchel Avenue, East Meadow, NY 11554 (phone: 516-292-0924). The necessary paperwork can also be faxed to the office at 516-292-0946.
The service member will need to provide Balfour Beatty Communities with:

Resident Specialists from Balfour Beatty Communities will meet with the prospective residents and show homes that are available.
The following information is provided for your convenience:
- Once you have arranged phone service, please provide our office with number.
- Renter Insurance: Renter insurance is recommended.
- Heat, Hot water, Electric, and Trash Pickup: are all included in your BAH.
- Move in Day: Move-in orientations are usually scheduled in advance during normal business hours. Please call our office at 516-292-0924 to reserve a move-in time that would be most convenient for you. Please allow 45-60 minutes to review and sign all the necessary paperwork.
- Please remember that we will prorate the month you move in and that all monies for that month are due at move in and must be paid by CERTIFIED FUND or CREDIT CARD. (i.e. cashiers check, money order or bank draft) The allotment option can only be started on the 1st of the month and will be withdrawn twice from your LES on the 15th and 1st of every month as allotments are paid in arrears.
- Lease Agreement: Lease is for 12 months for military members. Please do not hesitate to ask the Resident Specialist, assisting with your orientation about anything you do not fully understand.
- Box Disposal: After unpacking your boxes, please remember to flatten them and dispose of them in the recycling container marked “cardboard only.”
